1930’s rayon House Coat dress by ‘Windsmoor Creations’ of Melbourne.
This era was during the Great Depression and clothing had to go a long way.
The motto of the time to survive was ‘Use it up, wear it out, make do or do without’. This being the case ladies would keep certain more casual and durable clothing for running errands or doing the housework in. That way their formal and dressy outfits would be kept for best, seeing they only had a few outfits each.
Originally this dress was just a coat, with one buttonhole at the waist, but over time someone has converted her into a button through dress by adding press studs and buttons. We added the cotton belt, which we think gives it a little more flair.
Shown in gallery on our mannequin with 30’s accessories, a cloche hat, gloves, detachable fur collar and plain pumps, these are not included.
Bust is 96cm, waist is 82cm and length is 106cm.
